In Colorado you can earn up to:
per qualifying dependent age 5 or under from the Child Tax Credit and Family Affordability Tax Credit, or
per qualifying dependent age 6-16 from the Family Affordability Tax Credit
Am I eligible?
You probably qualify if you meet the following requirements but we will ask a few questions to confirm you are eligible to use SimpleFile.
If you’re filing in Colorado:
- You need to have been a full-year resident of Colorado in 2025.
- You need to have made less than $15K in taxable income in 2025 if you’re filing single.
- You need to have made less than $26K in income in 2025 if you’re filing with a spouse.
- You must have at least one dependent aged 16 or younger at the end of 2025 who lived with you for most of the year.
- You must not be required to file a federal or state tax return.
In New Jersey you can earn:
per qualifying dependent age 5 or under from the Child Tax Credit

- You must have at least one dependent aged 5 or younger at the end of 2025 who lived with you for most of the year.
- You must not be required to file a federal or state tax return.

Does this money affect the benefits I already get?
This money does not affect the benefits you already get, like SNAP, WIC, TANF, Medicaid, CHIP, and most types of public and subsidized housing.
Am I eligible if someone in my household has an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)?
Yes, ITIN filers are eligible to claim these benefits, even if you no longer qualify for federal credits.
Am I eligible for other tax benefits?
You are likely eligible for additional federal and state tax benefits if you had income from a job during the tax year, and you and your dependents have valid SSNs. To claim all of your eligible tax benefits, you need to file a federal and state tax return using your tax documents (W-2s, 1099s, etc.).
